Part-Time Contract UI/UX Designer (iOS & Web)

Job Description

We’re looking for a creative, detail-oriented Part-Time Contract UI/UX Designer (iOS & Web) to join SongShift and help us define the next iteration of our user experiences. From early concepts to final pixels, you’ll be leading the charge on how our users interact with future iOS and Web software. You’ll be our first dedicated designer, working closely with a small, fast-moving engineering team to define the look, feel, and flow of our product.

Remote · Contract · 10–20 hrs/week (3-month term, with the possibility to extend)

Responsibilities
  • Design new features and improvements for future iOS and Web software, from user flows and wireframes to polished, high-fidelity mockups and prototypes
  • Build and maintain a flexible design system that works across platforms and devices
  • Partner with our engineers (Swift + ReactJS) to bring your designs to life, ensuring implementation stays true to vision
  • Quickly iterate on feedback to improve the product while balancing user needs, technical constraints, and business goals
  • Prepare production-ready assets (SVGs, icons, animations, etc.) and document your designs clearly for hand-off
  • Make accessibility a key part of every design decision (think WCAG, Dynamic Type, and VoiceOver support)
  • Help shape our visual identity with occasional marketing assets, micro-interactions, or brand illustrations
Requirements
  • A portfolio that shows thoughtful, user-centered work across mobile and web
  • 2+ years experience designing digital products (freelance or professional)
  • Proficiency with modern design tools (Sketch preferred)
  • A solid grasp of iOS Human Interface Guidelines and responsive web design fundamentals
  • Strong communication skills—you can clearly explain your design choices to both technical and non-technical folks
  • Work Authorization: Must be legally allowed to work in the U.S. without the need for sponsorship
Nice-to-Haves
  • Experience working on music, creator, or audio-focused apps
  • Motion design skills (After Effects, Lottie, or Framer Motion)
  • Accessibility knowledge (especially WCAG 2.2 testing)
  • HTML/CSS skills to assist in going from design mockups to coded products
Benefits
  • Competitive hourly rate: $45–$85/hr depending on experience
  • Flexible schedule and fully remote—work when you’re most productive
  • Influence product direction on a small, fast-moving team
Work Hours
  • Roughly 10–20 hours per week
  • As needed all-hands meetings to discuss designs and future directions

At SongShift, we believe music should be easy to share and fun to explore—and building great tools starts with a team that feels supported and inspired. We’re proud to be an equal opportunity employer and welcome creatives from all backgrounds and experiences.
